Poetic Resistance

Maybe its weird to dedicate a whole page to three songs — but the words, the images and the heartache demand it.

This may not be Noori’s best song, but that would only be because they are so talented.  What’s special about Mere Log is the way it invokes Pakistan.  The eyes staring into the camera transport you home and into real lives.  I haven’t felt like this in a long time.  

 

If you haven’t heard the official long march anthem you *must* listen to this.   “Aik nayee dunya kay taraanay”.  Apologies that there is no english translation, but I think the pictures speak for themselves.

 

And here is a personal favourite.  Never more appropriate than today.  Iqbal Bano sings Faiz’s eternal Ghazal, Hum Dekhenge:
